Marigold was used in Antique Greek, Roman, Arab and Indian cultures as a medicinal plant. The anti-aging characteristics of marigold oil were already known to the Ancient Egyptians. Today it is known that this is due to the high proportion of carotenoids, phytosterols and essential fatty acids. The effectiveness of the plant was already known to Hildegard von Bingen and even the Greek healer Theophrast.
