Verbena is not only used in popular medicine for treating illnesses of the upper respiratory tract. Quite early it was known as an anti-inflammatory and diuretic substance and today verbena is used to treat a number of different diseases and disorders.
The herb is to offer relief when treating illnesses in the mouth and throat mucosa and the upper respiratory tract such as tonsilitis, throat infections, whooping cough and asthma.
Verbena is also used to treat cramps, tiredness, exhaustion, nervous disorders, digestion illnesses, jaundice as well as liver, kidney and gall problems and urinary tract, pain, rheumatic illnesses, gout and metabolic diseases.
For women the plant can have a positive effect during their menopause, irregular period or when suffering from problems during breastfeeding.
Beyond this the herb is used for dealing with wounds that are not healing, burns and ulcers.
